Vegas Valley Book Festival

I’ve been a part of some pretty amazing events of late, and I wanted to share with you. The Vegas Valley Book Festival is headed by a friend of mine, a kid I knew in High School who is making great things happen at the Historic 5th Street School, especially with this amazing Festival. I first attended the Festival for the fun it afforded my kids. They walked through gathering all kinds of arts and crafts, picking up books, speaking to authors, hanging out with Clifford and Super Why. It was lots of fun for them. That was several years ago, and I can say this year I wished I’d brought my kids with me again! There was so much happening for the kids: hands on fun, characters walking around, and all kinds of awesomeness to keep their little bodies moving...

What Did YOU Read?

During the summer I’ve been reading like crazy. Part of my reading frenzy was inspired by my regency writing and I deemed it “research” to comb through delightful books by Sarah M. Eden and others. I joined up with the Summer Book Trek sponsored by New LDS Fiction and had a BLAST I tell you! For one thing, both my hard copy and e-books were snapped up by prize winners which give me all kinds of happy feelings. Plus I read some great books during that month, over a dozen, and got a PILE of free books to show for it on my nightstand. I’ve been waiting for a certain book with anxious anticipation. This kind of sad-sighing-is-it-September-yet? kind of feeling whenever I reach for something to read.  What book could inspire this note of longing? You guessed...

Weekend Inspiration

So feeling this one today. There have been a lot of “Nos” in the process of writing and publishing books. Rejection is a part of life in any art form. Some love your work, some could pick it to pieces and then grind into the ground while smiling in your face. It’s just part of life. Some are builders, some are wreckers. Some say Yes! and mean no and some say NO! and gradually warm into yes. One day I was sitting at a stoplight checking emails (I don’t do that anymore because it’s against the law – just so we’re clear) and I got the dreaded email from an Editor looking at one of my books. We had been chatting for weeks now. There was hope – she loved my book, she was sending it to outside readers, it was going to be...

Book Club Visit

Just before Christmas I got to visit with a lovely group of ladies for their book club. This was one of my favorite visits. Not only did I get to catch up with one friend, Krishelle, who is a creative genius in her own right, but Lindsay as well, a dear friend who used to live on my side of town before relocating. Yes, we’re in the same city, but we rarely get to cross paths without gatherings like these. I can’t tell you how fun it was to see both of them and meet their other friends. Lindsay was my first screaming fan…I’ll never forget it! Ha ha! We talked family, parenting, and BOOKS! I came away with several titles to add to my ‘must read’ list. I have a special place in my heart for book clubs. While I am an avid reader on...

Book Club Visit

Right after A Heart So Broken launched, I was invited to participate in a local Book Club of about a dozen ladies. This was my first ever Book Club visit, and even though these ladies were my friends, I was still nervous about what their opinions would be once they’d experienced my writing style and story concept. I felt it was a great story, but what would readers think? It would only take a bit of imagination to conjure up the thousands of conflicting emotions I was feeling. Of course, my concerns were completely unnecessary. There was a general agreement that A Heart So Broken is a wonderful read! Each woman had their own unique take on the storyline and the impressions it left on them. I loved the questions that came out and the opportunity to explain a...
